Carol, thanks for your thoughtful response to my Alban Weekly article. I agree that developing a sense of common purpose or calling is an important part of getting a group to pull in the same direction. Who would disagree with that?

I'm less sure than you seem to be, though, that purpose can always be clarified "way before" a group begins to talk about individual differences, or that difference is always a simple matter of "abundance and diversity." Sometimes occupational differences are so great that they amount almost to foreign languages: some insight about them may be a prerequisite to a conversation about purpose deep enough to make a difference.

I'm glad to have discovered your blog, and look forward to reading more of your good thoughts.
